Description:
Mauritius on a budget: the lovingly-renovated Dzama Hotel was refurbished in 2018, and is ideal for couples and families who want to stay by palm trees in the north of the island, with half-board included on request. Comfortable, inviting double rooms, triple rooms, and family rooms complete with balconies on two storeys offer a peaceful spot away from the tourist centre of the island. Here, you can spend a relaxing day in a sun-lounger by the pool or at the bar of the hotel, or even with a massage treatment. The reception is open 24 hours a day, so your questions and requests can be answered by the owner and/or the hotel’s staff in English, French, or however you need to communicate. Free parking is also available at the hotel itself. In fact, travelling with children could hardly be easier than this: start the day off with breakfast before walking to or taking your rental car to one of the surrounding beaches with its boat excursions. Street food stalls provide snacks throughout the day, while Indian and Creole restaurants, alongside McDonalds, can all be found nearby. The Super-U supermarket (around 10 minutes’ drive away) also offers everything that you might need for a self-catering holiday. And, back at the hotel Dzama, there is a minibar as well...

Surroundings:
From sunrise to sunset, there is always something going on in Grand Baie. This area is ideal for those who are happy being surrounded by others; for those who want to enjoy the beach and the water, as well as shops and clubs with their sega rhythms. This once fishing town reflects the population of the country well, showing you the diversity of those who have settled in Mauritius over the years. The highlight of the area however is of course the ocean, where you can go snorkelling, scuba diving, parasailing, or go on catamaran or glass-bottom boat trips if you wish. The somewhat louder Grand Baie Public Beach can also be found here, and its Banana Beach Club is well worth a visit for a tasteful cocktail evening. Meanwhile, Pereybère Beach is a popular family beach where you can try out snorkelling. Finally, the small bay of La Cuvette is ideal for sitting under the trees in the shade and watching your children as they paddle in the water.
