Grand Baie, 10 minutes away, is a little more animated. Those who are interested in culture should visit the Maheswarnath Mandir temple in Triolet, a 10-minute drive away, which is an imposing bastion of Hinduism. Far in the north, at Cap Malheureux, why not pay a visit to the chapel Notre Dame Auxiliatrice, one of the main landmarks of the island. If you are interested in flora, the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses is well-worth a visit. (Ramgoolam was the first Prime Minister after Mauritius obtained its independence). Numerous other culturally and historically relevant sights can be found in the capital, Port Louis, which is a 30-minute drive away.
